What are raloxifene tablets used for?

Evista helps to lessen calcium loss from bones. It prevents bone loss and boosts normal bone formation in patients suffering from osteoporosis. It also inhibits the effects of estrogen in the breast and therefore is often used to prevent some certain types of breast cancer.

How is the medicine taken?

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If too much time has passed and your next dose time ha almost come, skip the missed dose and go on your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking double dose, it may destroy your health.

    * levothyroxine
    * herbal or dietary supplements
    * ampicillin

Inform your physician or health care professional about all other medications you are taking including medications sold without prescription. You should also inform your physician or health care professional if you frequently use drinks containing caffeine or alcoholic beverages, if you smoke or use poppers. These may affect the action of your medicine. Consult your health care professional when you decide to stop or start any of the medications you take.

What side effects may cause Evista?

You should inform your physician or health care professional immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

    * difficulty breathing
    * skin rash, burning
    * leg pain or swelling of the limbs

Common side effects that usually are mild and do not require medical attention are the following:

    * difficulty sleeping
    * fluid retention
    * hot flashes
    * muscle aches
    * stomach or intestinal gas
    * stomach disorder
    * excessive sweating
    * weight gain
    * leg cramps

What I should be informed about before taking Evista?

Contact regularly your physician or health care professional for monitoring your progress. Never stop taking Evista without your physician’s advice.

It is highly recommended to get enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet during the whole time you are taking Evista. Discuss your diet with your physician or nutritionist.

Exercise too may prevent bone loss. Talk about your exercise needs with your physician or health care professional.

Sometimes Evista can cause blood clots. Long periods of bed rest are not recommended while taking Evista. If you have to undergo surgery, you should necessarily inform your physician or health care professional that you are taking Evista. You should stop taking Evista at least 3 days before surgery. After surgery you can only start again taking Evista after you are walking again.

Smoking is not recommended during the period while you are taking Evista. Smoking may also represent a risk for formation of blood clots. Smoking can also interfere with the effects of Evista on bone.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep Evista out of the reach of children and home pets.

Store the medication at a temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C. Do not use the medicine if the keeping time has expired.

How long is the shelf life of the pills?

The expiry date is stamped on each blister. The shelf life makes 2 years from the date of production.
